FAHI Membership Requirements

The Florida Association of Home Inspectors, Inc., (FAHI) is a continually evolving association dedicated to providing no less than the highest standards of home inspection available for all of Florida’s citizens. In keeping with that highest of traditions membership requirements have recently changed to include the long awaited and much needed licensure now required by the State of Florida. The following membership requirements reflect that much desired change:

1. Member must be at least 21 years of age.

2. Members must be of good moral character.

3. Members must agree to adhere to the Florida Association of Home Inspectors, Inc. Code of Ethics.

4. Members must provide proof of at least fourteen (14) hours of education in the home inspection field to include:

   A. Inspection Methods

   B. Building Systems

   C. Reporting

   D. Professional Practice

5. Members must pass a one hundred (100) question pass/fail exam proctored by the Florida Association of Home Inspectors, Inc. The examination shall contain questions from all of the following:

   A. The Structure to include foundations, piers, slabs, bearing walls, wood damage, vertical supports, floors and beams.

   B. The Electrical System to include service entrance, weatherhead, main and sub panels, fuses, breakers, GFCI’s, grounding conductor, aluminum wire presence, switch operation, receptacles and light fixtures.

   C. The HVAC System to include the fuel source, chimney, heating equipment, distribution system, control system and cooling system.

   D. The Roofing System to include framing, insulation, roof coverings, soffits, facia, vents, gutters/downspouts, and vent penetrations.

   E. The Plumbing System to include water supply lines, waste/soil lines, vents, fixtures, faucets, water heating systems and associated fuel sources.

   F. Interior Components to include walls, ceilings, doors, steps, stairways, guards, fireplaces, diffusers, returns, smoke detectors and fire alarms.

   G. Exterior Components to include wall coverings, trim, windows, doors, porches, decks, guardrails, carports and external chimney components.

   H. Site Conditions Affecting the Structure to include perimeter, land grade, drainage, driveways, patios, grade steps, retaining walls, trees and vegetation adversely affecting the structure.

6. Members must complete a home inspection report as should be delivered to a customer.
